Region: Vancouver (Fairview/Cambie St.) Where: Whole Foods Price: $4.49 Average Rating: 17.25 Description: I had four of my family members try the pumpkin pie from Whole Foods. My family members baking experiences range from "some experience to expert". Overall, everyone mentioned how the crust as soft and buttery. They also liked the texture of the pie - dense mousse-like. The ingredients was perfectly balanced (not too spicy and not too sweet). The whipped cream was fresh and not sweet at all and made the slice of pumpkin pie way better! However, I asked my family members if they would but it again and they all had a neutral response. Try a pumpkin pie slice from Whole Foods and let me know if you would review it differently! Where: The Pie Hole Price: $30 Average Rating: 12.2 Description: The sides of the crust were perfect and flaky but the bottom the pie was soggy and chewy. The overall flavour of the pie was very yummy but quite standard for a good pumpkin pie. The appearance of the pie was not very appealing. Because of the high price point of the pie, expectations were very high and they were not met. -Meghan Region: Ladner, BC Location: Richlea Bakery Price: $7.50 Average Score: 14/20 Description: Richlea Bakery has the classic small-town homey feel to it. And it shows with their Pumpkin pies! While the appearance was a turn off for me (a bit too glossy for my taste) the texture and spice mixture was delicious. This pie had a velvety smooth texture without bordering on pudding. The nice dark colour of the filling just shows off the high amounts of cinnamon mixed in this little guy. Not the most impressive pie, but if you want something local and made with love, this is your pie. It's like what they say, don't judge a pie by it's tin. -Danielle Region: Surrey BC
Location: New Amsterdam Bakery Price: $6.50 Average Score: 11.6 Description: Sadly I was a bit tired from driving into Surrey So I forgot to grab a picture of this pie. The colour was a slightly dark tone, and the crust was thin and flakey. When I bought this pie it came frozen, so I'd like to think it would score higher as a fresh pie. NAB's pumpkin pie had a nice light flavour and a good crust. The spice level could have been a bit higher, but it was still detectable and enjoyable. The texture of the filling was a bit too runny for my taste, even after letting it cool down (everyone loves breakfast pie :) ) I'd like to visit this bakery again when they have fresh pie! -Danielle Region: Richmond BC Where: Costco Price: $5.99 Average Rating: 14/20 Description: It was a really big pie as you can see from the picture and the filling was around 1.5 inches thick. The filling was dense, sweet and creamy with a strong cinnamon flavor. The only problem with the pie was the soft pie crust and the thickness of the crust. We like our pie crust thick and flaky! -Kim Region: Surrey BC
Where: Deepu's No Frills Price: $8.50 Average Rating: 12.5/20 Description: Just as the store says, this pie was no frills. Though large in Diameter (12"!!) the lack of seasoning made this a forgettable pie. The crust was a classic shortbread style, and while quite yummy, was a bit too thick for the amount you got per slice. The filling was a nice light orange, and had a good density to it, but lacked the classic cinnamon and nutmeg flavour. Happy Tasting! -Danielle |
